A symbol of the
Women's Movement or radical feminism, consisting od the astrological symbol of
the planet VENUS ,also known as symbol of the ROMAN goddess Venus, and the
clenched fist,symbol of 1960's and early 1970's "power"movements.
There are certain symbols
and images that have become synonymous with feminism and equality. They have become
Facebook profile pictures,phone wallpapers,bumper stickers,desktop
backgrounds. We see them everywhere and likely don't think much about it except
to say" oh, look!A fellow feminist! ". Here's a little background on
some of these feminist or equality symbols and images.
The symbol for" women"
or " female" was named after the Goddess Venus and has become
the symbol denoting all things female. It is sometimes displayed on the door of
the women's restroom.Despite it's regulation to bathroom doors, there is
actually a lot more meaning to it related to spirituality. Fortunately as we
have learned more about gender neutrality and inclusion, the symbol has been
adapted in many ways to better reflect gender diversity.
This symbol popped up during the
activism movements of the 1960's and 1970's .It is often associated with"
radical feminism". This is obviously an adaptation of the Venus Symbol
combined with the raised fist which is more commonly associated with the symbol
for Black Power in the sixties.Venus symbol is not always thought to represent
feminism. Combined with the raised first,it became the Woman power symbol and
became a symbol of feminism.
This symbol which is frequently used to denote
the type equality , was created as the logo for the Human Rights Campaign. What
this logo is really about is the fight for equal rights for LGBTQIA folks.
(Lesbian Gay Bisexuals Trans and Queer). In 2009 while the Supreme Court was
hearing marriage equality cases, the
logo was reworked in red as a marriage equality
symbol.
COEXIST idea is simplistic and a
fairly tale to implying that people with these stickers are going against
Christianity and they are the downfall of the world!!!!
